Proactive Service Alert – HP Notebook Batteries

By January 9, 2018June 9th, 2021No Comments

PDS wanted to make you aware of a voluntary safety recall and replacement program for some HP notebook and mobile workstation batteries. To date, there have been eight reports of batteries overheating, melting, or charring and this issues pertains to less than 3% of the potentially affected products sold over the past two years. However, because customer safety is a primary concern of HP and PDS, we are proactively notifying you of this potential risk and to inform you that HP will be providing replacement batteries and replacement services with no  charge to you.  According to our records, you have previously purchased one or more of the impacted models, so it is critical to check whether your battery is affected as not all batteries in the products listed are impacted. These devices and associated batteries were shipped between December 2015 and December 2017 and were shipped with the following HP models:

  • HP ProBook 640 G2 and G3
  • HP ProBook 645 G2 and G3
  • HP ProBook 650 G2 and G3
  • HP ProBook 655 G2 and G3
  • HP ZBook 17 G3 and G4
  • HP ZBook Studio G3
  • HP x360 310 G2
  • HP Pavilion x360
  • HP ENVY m6
  • HP 11 Notebook PC

The first step in terms of this recall is to determine whether the battery you have is impacted. This can be accomplished by going to: www.HP.com/go/batteryprogram2018. There, you can download the “HP Battery Validation Utility” which will determine whether the battery within your device is affected. If your battery is found to be impacted, you can continue to safely use your device by placing the battery in Safety Mode and connecting to a power source until the battery can be replaced. This site also allows you to order free battery replacement services and there are options for bulk replacements to be coordinated.

For additional details, please see the attached document. Additionally, HP has created a site dedicated to this recall which can be found at: www.HP.com/go/batteryprogram2018 and includes additional details on the recall, the battery validation utility, and FAQs. PDS will continue to monitor this situation and if we find additional ways to assist with this situation we will certainly reach out to you once again.  As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to us and we’ll be happy to assist.
