Advisory Regarding Increased Worldwide DDoS Activity

By April 3, 2020June 22nd, 2021No Comments

Advisory Type:  IT Security
Severity:  Critical
Summary:

PDS is providing the following communication to build awareness of a credible threat of increased Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) activity occurring worldwide.

On April 3, 2020 PDS was advised by the Check Point Incident Response Team of increased DDoS activity occurring worldwide.  Targets have included central governments, healthcare, banking, energy and retail sectors.

Attacks are using SYN attacks, reflection tactics, volumetric attacks, and DNS cache and volumetric strategies.

To date, the attacks have not been attributed to any actors or groups yet.  There is strong suspicion that the activity is related to the COVID-19 pandemic

We strongly advise vigilance as DDoS activity often is used to divert attention from other malicious activity.
